Deddington Cricket Club was formed in the mid-eighties by a group of like-minded cricketers then playing for a variety of clubs in surrounding Oxfordshire villages. They felt that Deddington was big enough to support a cricket club. The original pitch was the old Windmill school pitch and from humble beginnings the club steadily grew. By the early nineties the pitch had been moved due to house building on the original site, Deddington CC had established itself in the Senior section of the Oxfordshire Cricket Association and had a thriving Sunday fixture list. Presently we have first class purpose built facilities at the Windmill Centre. We have approximately 35 senior members and 30 juniors; a Saturday league team recently elected to the OCA Premier Section and, on an increasing number of summer Sundays, provide cricket for two teams. In addition the club runs a midweek league team and Under 16, Under 13 and Under 11 teams. The main reason for a second Sunday team is to provide cricket for the 16 to 18 year age group and the midweek team also gives priority to them.
At the time of writing (April 1999), we are just finishing our second season in the OCA Premier section. We were promoted for the second season in a row last season and have had a year of consolidation during 1999. We will finish about mid-table and are actively seeking new players for the upcoming Millennium season. Indoor Cricket starts again in October 1999 and we continue to raise money to improve club facilities and attract new members. New members of all ages are welcome and should contact the Secretary below.
