Friends of Deddington Church

Friends of Deddington Church is a network of people who appreciate the Church and its role at the heart of our village community.

It is not primarily a religious organisation.

As well as fulfilling its religious functions, the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul hosts a wide range of other activities.

Dear Friends Although you may already have picked up this information from DN, it seems appropriate at this point to update you on our plans for 2013 and beyond. On Friday May 31 between 10.00am and 4.00pm we look forward to an Antiques Roadshow style Valuation Day. Four experts from Holloway’s Auctioneers will be in attendance to value your treasures. We shall be at our Farmers’ Market table on May 25th to promote this event and (we hope) enrol a few new members. Meantime, you still have a couple of weeks to see if you have any items you would wish to have valued for possible sale. Or there may be things you don’t want to sell but would like to have valued for your own interest, or for insurance purposes. The cost is ₤2 per item valued, or ₤5 for three items. Refreshments will be available all day. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at some point on May 31st. Many of you will have seen the posters advertising Steve Miller’s Abba Magic tribute concert on May 25th. Steve has been organizing popular concerts in the village for some time now, and donates the money he raises to various charities in the village. The theme of his summer concert (August 24th) is ‘Back to the Sixties’, performed by the tribute band The Pete Watkins Experience. Expect songs made famous by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Hollies and many others! Steve, who is also our events organiser, has kindly offered to donate ₤2 for each ticket sold for this concert to FODC. More details soon: posters will appear in the village from the first week of June onwards. Our final event of 2013 will be a Tea Dance on Sunday 22nd September, 3.00pm – 6.00pm (more details later). Our first AGM will be on October 22 at 7.30 pm, in the Church. All of you are invited to celebrate the first birthday of FODC with a glass of wine. We’ll send out an agenda closer to the time. Finally, on April 26th next year we look forward to a Calypso evening with a lively steel band. We envisage a cafe-style social evening with simple food, wine, beer and soft drinks and a space cleared for dancing to the music. We hope this event will be of interest to both young and older people. I hope you’ll agree that this is not a bad programme for an embryonic organization. You, our members are not short on ideas, and we need you to be active in coming forward with suggestions and support to maintain and increase our momentum. More on future plans on October 22nd. Best wishes to you all and warmest thanks for your support Lesley Milroy
