The Deddington and District Youth Club meets on Monday evenings during the term time at the Windmill Centre in Deddington. The Club operates from 7pm to 9pm and welcomes members from the age of 10 to 15 years. There is a subscription of £2 per evening to cover rent of the Windmill Centre and cost of materials.
The Club was revived in 1998 and affiliated to the Oxford Association for Young people. A management committee was formed and, after presenting a business plan to the Parish Council, Leaders' salaries were guaranteed for a limited period. Two leaders were appointed.
The evenings are structured with the emphasis on fun, team events and the development of individual talents. At the same time, the Club promotes good behaviour and respect for others. There are a number of sports and craft activities available and, weather permitting, the use of the All Weather court and grass areas. There are regular visits from O.A.Y.P., The Cherwell Valley 'A' team and other activity groups.
To celebrate the Millennium the members made a video film 'Deddington: Past, Present and Future'. This was directed by Oxford Film and Video Makers and financed by a lottery grant.
The club welcomes help from volunteers and parents and would be interested in hearing from other local clubs for joint events or sport matches.
