Those were the words in the Parish Council Newsletter of May 2008 refering to the major face lift at the Cemetery and new plant beds etc. Unfortunately, that tranquility may well disappear if the scheme to install a wind turbine in the Windmill playing field gets the go-ahead. This turbine will be just over the hedge, about 10 metres or so away. The people proposing this turbing say it is 18 metres high, for us older ones that is approx 59 feet. What they fail to say is that this is the height of the mast and generator. The blades are another 6.5 metres radius, 21 feet, so the total height is more like 80 feet, as these things are spinning round about once a second. This is about three quarters of the height of the Church tower. I, like many others, have friends and relatives buried in the Cemetery. I don't think it will be very tranquil place for people to visit and spend a quiet moment at the graves of their departed loved ones with this turbine, so high and large, spinning round just above their heads.

Personally, I don't think it will make a lot of difference.
I find the movement of wind turbine blades almost hypnotic - quite relaxing.

Do you mean that personally you don't think it will not make a lot of difference to you or personnaly you don't think it will make a lot of difference to others. There is a difference. If you don't think it will make a lot of difference to you then I respect your view, however if you are saying that you don't think it will make a lot of difference to others then that is different because you have already found someone who knows it will make a lot of difference and it's my guess you will find a lot more who will notice the difference too.

I am speaking only for me. I am not claiming to speak or write for others.
In the same way I expect that the opinions you express are your own.

The views expressed are entirely my own opinion and like you I do not claim to speak for others. If, as you say, you are speaking only for you then I respect that view entirely. When I say I don't think it will be a very tranquil place, that is entirely my opinion. You say it will not make a lot of difference to you personnaly. Fine, that's the two of us sorted, we agree to differ, but what about all of the others who, like me, have loved ones buried there. Do you not think it might be a good idea to speak to them before proceeding with this.

As spectator in this process; I saw the raising of the subject at the PC annual meeting as part of the mechanism of speaking to all.
A project like this is bound to impinge on a lot of people who live and use the nearby amenities.
What I hope is that when considering how much of a change it will bring, that people are able to assess facts, without letting emotions cloud their judgement.
The difficulty is that the facts are difficult to ascertain.
You have said that you think the proposed windmill will disturb the tranquilty of the Cemetary. I've said that as far as I am concerned it won't cause a disturbance.
But; neither of us actually know what it will be like. So my plan is to go and get up close to a few of these windmills. I want to actually know what they are like. Until I have that experience, I won't know what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know the level of noise that the proposed wind turbine will create? I read in the paper that some homeowners were having their Council Tax reduced because of the noise level from wind turbines. They lived within 500 metres of the wind turbine. Obviously this was not in Deddington

The sound from the Gaia wind turbine at Mill Close (c200m away) will be 35db at the nearest houses, falling off to under 35db where most of the houses are. This is well within planning guidelines.

Well within planning guidelines maybe, BUT Recommended night time average noise levels for undisturbed sleep are 35db to 30db with a peak night time maximum of 45db Britain's Noise Act, which became fully enforceable in April 1997, gives local authorities powers to fine people who create excessive noise at night—in most cases set at more than 35 dB(A)—and confiscate noisy equipment. 35db at nearest house! (not much of a margin for error)Those involved need be sure of the reality of this figure. who supplied those turbine db figures? I am fully in favour of the turbine and i dont even live near to the proposed site, Justin
