I am somewhat saddened to read in this report that “79% of respondents said that there was not enough for young people to do in the Parish”. Looking back to when I was young (only 10-15 years ago!), I only had one evening off per week: I went to Youth Club on a Monday, Brownies (and later Guides) on a Tuesday, Piano Lessons on Wednesday, my only night off on a Thursday and Parish Church Choir Practice on a Friday. At the weekend I was usually doing something with Deddington Players and on Sundays I was in Church Choir again.
As a regular reader of DN, I know that most of these clubs/societies still exist, and when I was kindly invited back to the Choir Reunion in the Parish Church on July 8th this year, I was disappointed to discover that the choir has lost its “young” contingent. I really feel, therefore, that rather than create new activities for young people, the PC should try to promote activities currently in existence, of which many young people may not be aware, and which may even face permanent decline if nothing is done to help boost numbers.
