Deddington Funfair
The Parish Council (PC) has recently decided to hold the Funfair again this November.
At their last meeting it was reported that an overwhelming majority of Deddington people were in favour of the funfair. What!!! I think this is barely credible and I would like to see the evidence which supports this comment.
My objections to the funfair, already lodged with the PC are:
It is very intrusive and disruptive to Deddington for the period Wednesday to Sunday.
Traffic, both local and business, is unable to flow smoothly.
Businesses are disrupted, and supplies are not able to be easily delivered.
Residents are badly affected by the excessive noise through loudspeakers of music and screaming operators trying to drum up business.
Residents are forced to block off their doors and windows as a result of the stench of diesel fumes from generators.
The fair has nothing to do with the traditional ‘Pudding and Pie Fair’.
Lastly, the funfair is not well supported. I talked to the owner/operator of the funfair who freely admitted that the kids are no longer interested.  Also, he said that he makes a financial loss in Deddington, and only comes because the PC encourages him to do so.
So this is the start of a campaign. I am hoping that as a result of Deddington’s ‘People Power’, we can encourage the PC to overturn their decision.
Therefore I am inviting everybody who is affected by the PC decision, a Market Place resident or a business, to express your opinion on this Forum.

I've never seen the pint in the fun fair in Deddington.
Must be grim for those living nearby, and as you say, I bet trade is upset as well.

I'd be interested to know how the village benefits from having it.

When I was there last fair I counted very very many smiling young faces (and quite a fewolder ones) as kids had a ball and parents socialised as elements of the parish came together as a comunity. You might not think that's a benefit - but I do.

yep, I agree, it sounds like a benefit.

Does anyone have any idea how many from the Parish enjoy this benefit?
