Dear All,


Just a quick reminder that we have 3 courses running soon at The Mid-Shires Orchard Groups Home Orchard at The  Estate office, Home Farm Natural Trust Stowe Landscape Gardens  Mk18 5DQ


Saturday 2nd of July _ How to set up, run and maintain a Community / Your own orchard.  Covrs all aspect of planning and setting up and maintaining an
orchard11-3 at Home fArm orchard, Stowe Landscape Gardens  (cost £25 members £ 35 non members)  Tutor  - Andy Howard

Sunday 3rd July – Budding Course (1)  11-3 at Home farm orchard, Stowe Landscape Gardens  (cost £25 members £ 35 non members) all students get to
take home two free trees. Tutor - Andy Howard

Sunday 10th July – Budding Course (2)  10.30- 2.30 at Home Farm orchard, Stowe Landscape Gardens  (cost £25 members £ 35 non members) all students
get to take home two free trees. Tutor – Marcus Roberts

( NB Places on all courses are limited)

All the best and hope you all still have plenty of apples on your tree after the  june drop. Dont forget to thin out your apple and especially plums at
the top of the branch if you are going to have bumper crop to stop them breaking off at the base of the bough. As removing the weight  at the top of
the branch stops the plums acting acting as a fulcrum and therefore breaking the branch on what they are growing.

PS For those interested in a bit of Apple history and horticulture, there's
a TV programme about apples this Wednesday evening (15th - BBC4 at 9pm)
called Apples: British to the Core. It may even feature Oxfordshire's own
Deddington Pippin tree by the Banbury - Oxford Road (and possibly me too as
I showed it to presenter Chris Beardshaw after a last minute call from the
production company!)
