Doreen's parents

Photo taken by Doreen of her parents - Albert Henry Stewart and Dorothy Mary (Fuller) and her younger sister Joyce standing in front of the Home Guard's road barrier constructed from a tree trunk on wheels. This obstacle was to be placed across the road to Clifton at the corner by Castle End to hold up German vehicles. A machine gun was sited behind the wall on its north side.

There is a sad epitaph to this photo. Albert was killed in the blitz after he and his wife returned to London.
